CHRIS FREMANTLE

What art have I seen? MoMA

The exhibition on information design was good although it is very easy to question the boundary that is selected or to propose some questions about the interpretation (e.g. is the period around 10,000 BCE really just people living in woods?).

The Brancusi on the top floor was a real homage to a modern master, but the texts seemed to suggest that the curators wanted us to think the French aren’t sufficiently committed to maintaining Brancusi’s wish that his studio be preserved… politics is always present.

The exhibition focused on architecture in West Africa after independence was thoroughly engaging and did deal with the power issues, who was trained where, who commissioned what, what can be preserved, conserved and reused.
